• Apprenticeship or intern with an experienced groomer

Minimum Required Experience

• Currently employed as a groomer
• 10 years experience as a dog or pet groomer

Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills

• Certified Dog Groomer or Master Dog Groomer certificate through the National Dog Groomers Association of America (NDGAA)
• Associates Degree in related field

Special Instructions to Applicants

• Class will be held in the evenings, 2-3 nights per week. Location to be determined in New Hanover or Pender County.
• Requires 3 letters of recommendation and/or references from current supervisor and previous supervisors.

Definition

To provide classroom instruction through lecture, demonstration, laboratory exercises, handouts, responding to questions, and testing to guide students through the dog grooming.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
Employees within this class are distinguished from the Program Director and Full-time Faculty by the performance of basic and general instructional duties. Employees at this level receive instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.

Supervision Received/Exercised

• Receives direct supervision and/or technical direction from Workforce Development Coordinator and the Director of Customized Training and Workforce Development
• May occasionally receive general supervision from full-time instructional staff
• Exercises no supervision

Essential Functions

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students
• Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities
• Develop and prepare supplement materials to enhance textbook lessons
• Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; grade record individual scores
• Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
• Maintain and submit all required paperwork in a neat, accurate and timely fashion, including but not limited to: class rosters, registration forms, pay sheets, attendance forms and grade rosters
• Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines

Other Important Functions

• Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons and recommend improvements as needed
• Oversee and participate in field studies and assignments; travel with students to provide assistance and instruction as appropriate
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
