Minimum Required Education/Training

• Associate in the field of public safety required.

Minimum Required Experience

• Four years of experience in a community college environment working in the area of public safety training.

Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills

• Bachelors in some area of public safety, knowledge of incident command and general emergency preparedness training preferred.
• Experience working with grants and community college software preferred.

To lead, oversee, participate in, and provide support faculty and staff responsible for providing classroom and laboratory instructional services to law enforcement students, and to perform a variety of administrative and technical tasks relative to the Continuing Education In-Service Law Enforcement (LE) Training program area.

Supervision Received/Exercised

• Receives direct supervision from the Coordinator of CE Law Enforcement Training.
• Exercises direct supervision over LE training instructional faculty and staff.

Essential Functions

• Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives, establish schedules and methods for providing LE training programs, implement policies and procedures.
• Participate in the administration of the LE program budget, submit budget recommendations; monitor expenditures.
• Negotiate and acquire necessary off-campus training facilities as required for LE courses.
• Ensure compliance of the College’s LE program with state code regarding LE training.
• Monitor and enforce program compliance with laws, rules, and regulations related to safety in LE classes.
• Develop and maintain records of student attendance and performance; maintain other records and data bases according to program needs, accreditation requirements, and North Carolina Criminal Justice Education Training and Standards Commission (NCCJETSC) requirements.
• Develop class outlines and establish guidelines for various courses; assist with preparation of lesson plans and supplemental teaching materials; schedule classroom activities.
• Participate in a variety of student-related administrative activities including reviewing admission requirements, progress and qualifications for course completion; may participate in recommending graduates for employment and various licensing requirements.
• Provide training to, and review the work of faculty responsible for providing classroom instruction and laboratory demonstration services related to LE courses.
• Provide training to and review the work of staff responsible for providing administrative support related to LE courses.
• Assist with curriculum development; research new courses and areas of study; participate in systematic program evaluation.
• Act as an advisor to students and faculty; participate in student recruitment efforts.
• Remain up-to-date with new developments and changes in the LE field; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars and other programs as appropriate.
• Evaluate and maintain accurate records to ensure all faculty possess appropriate certifications and qualifications for courses of study offered.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

• Operational characteristics of instructional equipment and tools used in the classroom or laboratory.
• Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration.
• Principles and practices of curriculum development and instructional teaching strategies.
• Current trends, research findings and developments in the LE area.

Ability To

• Supervise, organize, train and evaluate the work of instructional, technical and clerical personnel.
• Coordinate, direct and implement LE training programs.

• Recommend and implement goals, objectives, and practices for providing effective and efficient LE training programs.
